Pineapple Express
Has anybody else seen the smoking Pineapple Express billboards around town?

I admit, I was one of the people who thought the sign was on fire when I saw it. But, in my defense, I was approaching it from behind, so the billboard on my side was not weed related.

The reason I'm asking is because I'm wondering if anyone knows how they work. Are they just heavy-duty fog machines? Because they run all day long, on and off. They would probably have to be refueled every day unless they had some massive juice tanks. And they put off big smoke plumes too. This isn't consumer-grade stuff.

Basically the point that I'm trying to make is that I want one. Who has a long ladder and is not busy tonight at 3 AM?

UPDATE: Apparently they used these on a campaign for Reaper as well. A comment on that story mentions "blue buckets of god-knows-what," so maybe they are just heavy-duty fog machines.

What I would do is use a sickly fragrant sweet liquid. This is not the fuel for the "smoke"; this is to lure in as many insects as possible. The insects are the fuel for the smoke.

Out here in Colorado, we ain't got fancy billboards like those'n. They just paints the name of the movie on the side of a cow.

They use steam. My favorite is (er, was) the Cup Noodle in Times Square

From Wikipedia:
From 1996 to 2006, a 60-foot (18 meter) Nissin Cup Noodle sign was installed in Times Square, New York City. It was located prominently near the top of the One Times Square building, the location of the Times Square Ball drop on New Year's Eve. The sign was the most recent example in a tradition of steaming signs in Times Square, which started with an A&P 8 O'Clock Coffee cup in 1933.

I wish I had know they got rid of it - it would have made a great tombstone in your graveyard!
