Hurricane Fest 2006
To anybody within driving distance of south Florida, your dreams of seeing me live on stage just came true.

On Saturday, July 15, I will be among [info]timb's guests at Hurricane Fest 2006. I'll be giving a dramatic reading of an excerpt from The Oblivion Society and backing up Timb and the Band of Erics with my legendary vocal stylings.

For all the details, I turn the entry over to [info]timb:

I've noticed over the last two years Atlantic Hurricane Season has gotten a lot of bad press, so I've decided to pick up everyone's morale a bit by changing Hurricane Season to the more accessible and enjoyable Hurricane Fest.

The time to be depressed about hurricanes is over (wanna cry about it you buncha babies??)! Now it's a fun event. We're going to have a lot of great bands and sexy parties. Lots of BBQ and kickball when the power goes out for weeks at a time. Hell, we might even knock over a wal-mart for shotguns and then cut the line at the gas pumps with the help of the ol' boom stick.

neato.

i just started Oblivion Society a couple of hours ago (sean just finished.)
it's great fun to hear, from scott and timb, about your predilection for tequizas only to see them mentioned in the book a few days later!

Hahaaa! Yes. Erik's pain is but a mirror of my own.

I toyed around with the idea of ending my author bio with, "Marcus does, in fact, like Tequiza."

Hey, I'm coming in from California, so I don't want to hear any "five hours away" shenanigans outta you. I want to see you at the Hideout in July!

Timb's apartment becomes an overcrowded youth hostel over this weekend every year. If you're concerned about a ten-hour round trip in one day I'm sure arrangements could be made if you asked him nicely.

But I get the futon.

I've got a 10 hour drive in one day! Which I probably AM doing now... it is all hinged on my mom having that weekend free to keep Rayna.

I wish I knew for certain, I suspect a plane ticket wouldn't cost much more than the gas.

Depending on what happens with hurricanes this year, I might be in Florida around that time. Late last year, Hurricane Wilma took me to Lakeland, FL, which is about 4 hours away. Be cool to have something to do.

Our friend Aubrey comes down from Lakeland for the party every year. Maybe you could carpool. If you like Nirvana.

Curse you guys for giving me a desire to be in Florida... Alas I too am in California and here I must stay.

And off-topic: Marcus, the book was awesome. I've been trying to think of a more clever way to say that since I finished the book. (A day after getting it, I might add. I could not put it down.)I'm strapped for something more creative... "Awesome" will just have to do.

Thanks a lot. :-)

Well, you keep thinking about it until Monday. ObSoc just got listed on Amazon, so I'm going to be doing another review/photo contest next week.

Can the fans vote for what your selection will be? :)

I hope that someone will be good enough to videotape the reading and then put it on the Internet.

Sure, what does everybody want to hear?

I'll probably do the prologue, because it's the most encapsulated thing. It's short, self-contained, and is the most likely to keep the attention of a drunk audience.
